Introduction

My name is Brittany A, and I am high school Biology teacher, in Southern California.   I am also an Assistant Varsity Coach for Girls and Boys Cross Country and Track Teams.  I work at the high school I graduated from, and love it.  This is my 5th year as a teacher, 3rd year as a Science Teacher.

I have also taught PE and Heath (my degrees are in these subjects), as well as was the head coach of Girls Soccer and Softball at a high school I worked at in Arizona.

I became a teacher mostly because my whole family is made up of teachers, and I learned very early on how rewarding this job is.  I also became one because sports are very important to me, so I wanted to be able to teach and help the youth of todays world live healthy active lives.

After taking my "Personality Test"  I received the scores of ISTJ.

According to these results, I am often called an Inspector- and have a keen sense of right and wrong, as well as getting frustrated when others do not hold up their end of the assignment.

I think my "chosen" content area - which was actually assigned to me is not as correct as my personal chosen area.  I went to school to be a PE and Health teacher, and due to lack of job opportunities in my area in that field, I am a science teacher after being a PE/Health teacher for 2 years.  I thoroughly enjoy my job, as one, just feel that Sports follow more along with the "right/wrong thoughts" such as the rules of a game.

I feel that my "personality" helps my students because I teach in a "step-by-step" method.  I feel that this probably helps many of my students since most of them are in a class that is for students who are  in ASP or assisted learning programs.  Using step-by-step methods, helps to break down what is being asked of them and lets them ask for clarity on directions or topics.

  1. I use a very step-by-step process with my kids as well, making sure to model each step as we go. I have also found that a checklist is a good tool to pair with this method, so students (esp. my low-achieving and/or my SPED students) can keep track of where they are in the process. Sometimes, a little organization can go a long way! :)
